Artisanal Winemaking
Alison Crowe – Verada Head Winemaker
Crafting wines for over 25 years, Alison is a uniquely qualified winemaker. She understands California’s distinct terroir and the opportunities it lends to creating balanced wine. Born into a California agricultural family, Alison saw early on the magic of turning grapes into distinctive wines. She followed her passion with a Bachelor’s Degree in Enology from the University of California, Davis and later returned to receive her MBA.
“Creating Verada wines is a stimulating, artistic process I look forward to year after year. It takes a deep understanding of the different California wine regions and how those unique vineyard characteristics will present in the wine. Everything affects the taste of the wine, from soil structure to weather and the vineyards topography. My job is to ensure we pick not only the best grapes from each vineyard but to choose regions that will perfectly balance each Verada wine blend. It is an involved process but so worth it when the wine sings true to its varietal.”
Alison is passionate about making vegan and gluten wines free, ensuring no unnecessary additives are in Verada wines. She masterfully chooses the best grapes from certain counties to bring out the inherent characteristics of each varietal. Each wine created by Alison is a harmonious blend, full of flavor and depth.Once grapes are harvested from the vineyards, they ferment separately in stainless steel tanks before being gently pressed down to age in the cellar. Alison picks the appropriate level of toast, or the char on the inside the wine barrel, based on the varietal of wine and region it came from. Once ready to be bottled, Alison artfully blends the separate lots together until they perfectly balance using her terrific palette and a bit of chemistry.
